We’re All Living in a ‘wipes’ World
It almost sounds like a pop song, but sadly, it’s the reality indicative of a throwaway society. You can now buy ‘wipes’ to remove make-up, wipe down your worktops, wipe your baby’s bum, mop your floors, clean your bathtub, clean your mirrors, polish your furniture and even “wash” your car.
I can’t really understand the charm these chemical laden wipes hold. They certainly aren’t cheap, once opened they dry out and they just add to the rubbish pile you end up throwing out every week to that mystical place called ‘away’. Then, before you know it, you are running out and have to go buy even more wipes.
When I view what I deem as obscure advances in technology, I tend to think, “What did we used to do before this”? Well, we had cleaning cloths and a spray bottle and I removed my make-up with cleanser and a facial cloth.
In fact, I’m still using cleaning cloths and facial cloths. Does that make me primitive or perhaps, caught in some kind of 1970’s bubble? I hope not.
What I hope this makes me is smart. You see I use organic cotton cleaning cloths and organic flannel facial cloths. I can use them and wash them with my normal load. I use them and wash them again. This is quite a sustainable cycle and a heck of a lot cheaper than buying more ‘wipes’ every week. It’s also better for the landfills and the environment.
