While I was doing my research for this Mary Kay success tips article I found that according to a recent publication by the Direct Selling Association (DSA), over 75% of those engaged in direct sales businesses are women.

There were 1.7 million of these consultants in 2008. The company maintains a presence in over 30 markets worldwide. It is a truly global beauty company. Annual wholesale sales exceeded $2.25 billion in 2008.

There are two ways to earn money from the Mary Kay MLM opportunity. You can decide to sell the product part-time, thereby earning some extra money to supplement your income while enjoying generous discounts on your favorite beauty products.

Or you may decide to increase your earning potential by sharing the opportunity with others. If you choose this later option, then you’ll start by signing your Independent Beauty Consultant Agreement. You are then given a Starter Kit, product education and some form of motivation to help you build your own home-based business with Mary Kay.

Rewards come in the form of discounts on retail sales (up to 40%), luxury trips to exotic locations around the world, including Hawaii, Sydney, Vienna, Paris, and Hong Kong. There are also jewelries, as well as car awards. Statistics from the company revealed that to date, over 100,000 Independent Consultants have qualified for luxury car awards.

But the highest status within the Independent sales force is the INSD, Independent National Sales Director. About 500 women worldwide have attained this status.
